When we pioneered video book trailers on the internet, we adopted three golden rules.
1 | your trailer must grab your reader's attention immediately and inspire them to take positive action.
2 | your trailer must be honest, decent, legal and truthful, and promise nothing that you can't deliver in your book.
3 | we must never kid ourselves we're in the movie business and produce crummy tv trailers with bad actors and lousy sets. Your trailer must be for the sole purpose of publicising your book, not video pap.
Video trailers are cheaper and more effective than any print advertising in any prestigious book review, and publishers are ecstatic about having these book trailers to exploit. They can be stand-alone, suitable for email campaigns, embedding in existing websites and posting to YouTube. They can be coded to keep track of every viewer, sender and receiver, for your mailing lists.
The entire trailer production belongs to you, including everything you see and hear and all the technical stuff behind the scenes. If we need to compose and record special music, it's all part of the deal. When we licence a specific music track, then all rights to exploit that track in your trailer belong to you.
